Abies balsamaea 'Piccolo'

This dwarf Balsam fir grows very slowly into a dense globe that is an ideal addition to a rock garden, container or other small garden spot. Tiny, uniform, dark green needles cover the conifer’s many short branches &, in fall, prominent brown buds on the tips of branches lend added character. Best planted in partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. It has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches roughly 2’ tall by 2’ wide in size, growing 1” to 3” a year.

Abies balsamea ‘Tyler Blue’

Blue & beautiful are the two best words to describe ‘Tyler Blue’ Balsam Fir. The distinctive blue foliage stands out in the landscape & its pyramidal tree commands attention. The lush needles are soft to the touch, typical of other balsam firs. It is a fairly compact grower that prefers well-drained soil. ‘Tyler Blue’ enjoys full sun but will maintain its attractive blue color in partial shade. It has a broad upright growth habit & reaches 25’ tall by 15’ wide in size or larger, growing 15”+ a year.

 

Abies koreana 'Cis'

Radiating, dark green needles lie flat on the stems & provide a backdrop for attractive, small, brown buds at the branch tips.  This flattened, spherical plant has a formal, tidy appearance & glistening foliage that draws attention in the garden.  Has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches 1.5’ tall by 2’ wide, growing 1” to 3” a year.

Abies koreana ‘Golden Glow’

Especially in winter, this striking specimen lives up to its name. Many shoots loaded with short, wide needles—light yellow with white reverses—brighten the landscape with both color and texture. This compact, mid-size conifer develops an irregular, spreading shape. Provide moist, well-drained soil and some protection from scorching sun in hot areas. Has a spreading growth habit & reaches 6’ tall by 12’ wide in size, growing 6” to 10” a year.

 

Abies koreana 'Ice Breaker'

A very fine, relatively new dwarf cultivar of Korean fir.  Has the same strongly-curled needles showing off the silvery undersides that make the species distinctive. Branches are short, stubby and radial. Young plants will be globose, later developing a leader, eventually becoming a small squat tree. Has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches 2’ tall by 3’ wide in size, growing 1” to 3” a year.

 

Abies koreana ‘Silberperle’

An exquisite garden gem, with every compact branch decorated with pearls—really resinous, white buds—during fall and winter. Short, wide, deep green needles, accented with silvery-white undersides, add to the plant’s year-round ornamental impact. Conifer collectors and other discerning gardeners will love adding this dense, very slow growing jewel to their rock or trough displays, where it eventually takes on a pyramidal form. Use caution in hot areas, where harsh rays can bleach the needles. Has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches roughly 1.5’ tall by 1.5’ wide in size, growing 1” to 3” a year.

Abies koreana 'Silver Show'

Its two-toned needles are so tightly curled that the shoots are almost cylindrical, exposing the extremely white undersides completely. The result is a silver-white element in the garden. The contrasting dark purple cones stand out against the foliage. Showy color & special texture abound. Enjoys full sun & moist, well-drained soil. Has a broad upright growth habit & reaches roughly 12’ tall by 8’ wide in size, growing 6” to 10” a year.

 

Abies koreana 'Wellenseind'

An extremely compact, slow-growing conifer with short, wide, dark green needles that are held at wide angles. It boasts conspicuous white buds in winter. An excellent choice for containers or in the alpine rock garden, this delightful selection is sure to please. Has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches roughly 1.5’ tall by 1.5’ wide in size, growing 1” to 3” a year.

Abies lasiocarpa

This PNW native subalpine fir has good form, with a narrow upright growth habit. Has a bright green color & reaches roughly 15’ tall by 15’ wide in size or larger.

 

Abies lasiocarpa ‘Glauca Compacta’

Also known as Dwarf Blue Rocky Mountain Fir, this cultivar has striking blue needles are soft to the touch (not sharply pointed like Spruce) & create a dense, pyramidal form. Excellent specimen for containers, rock gardens or to add structure & year-round color to flowering borders. An extremely hardy & easy-care plant. Has a broad upright growth habit & reaches roughly 4.5’ tall by 2’ wide in size, growing 6” to 8” a year.

Abies nordmanniana 'Golden Spreader'

The bright, golden yellow of this low, spreading fir is especially striking in winter when much of the garden's color has faded. During the rest of the year, the versatile, useful plant brightens areas of partial shade, which it appreciates. Has a spreading growth habit & reaches 3’ tall by 6’ wide in size, growing 3” to 6” a year.

 

Abies procera ‘Blaue Hexe’

Also known as Blue Dwarf Noble Fir, it has frosted blue foliage that gives it a big presence in a small garden space. Short wide needles on short shoots form a low, spreading, cushion-shaped plant. The slow growth allows it to remain in the same space, even though it will develop a bit of height as it ages. Has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches roughly 1.5’ tall by 1.5’ wide in size, growing 1” to 3” a year.

 

Abies procera 'DelBar Cascade'

A vigorous, strongly growing, upright tree form of Noble fir with a sinuous central leader, strictly pendulous branching & long, rich, greenish-blue foliage. Reaches roughly 7’ tall by 2’ wide in size, growing 8” to 12” a year.

Abies procera 'Glauca prostrata'

This variety is in prostrate form.  This steely-blue cultivarient of the Noble Fir grows slowly and will produce one or more upright leaders with age. These leaders can be removed to maintain a prostrate form.  Has a spreading growth habit & reaches roughly 3’ tall by 6’ wide in size, growing 3” to 6” a year.

 

Abies veitchii 'Heddergott'

Glossy green needles are arranged perfectly to expose their brilliant bright white undersides giving the plant the appearance of a winter frost even in the heat of summer. A low growing, rounded, spreading plant, this durable selection from Germany is the perfect size for the home landscape. Has a globe shaped growth habit & reaches roughly 4’ tall by 6’ wide in size, growing 3” to 6” a year.
