The actor and model, 31, on posing for Playboy, paddling her own canoe and why she loves London Zoo

My most annoying habit is laughing all the time. I can't stop giggling. I do it because I'm nervous.
I prefer acting in theatre to film because I'm loud and have a big personality. I find it hard to be quiet and contained, which you really need to be for film.
I do Google myself. Not that often, though, and the stories are always rubbish. There was a story that I'd seen a hypnotherapist to help me cut down on the time I take to get ready to go out. Where do they get it from? I can get ready in half an hour – and there are far more important things I could see a hypnotist about.
I don't take myself as seriously as I used to. The press has been pretty horrible to me and I was upset by it. But now I look at what I've achieved and I don't care what anyone thinks about me.
I was nervous posing for Playboy. But I was 30 when I did it, and I thought: if I don't do it now, I never will. The photographer, Ellen von Unwerth, made it such fun. She kept saying: "Imagine you're a secret agent," things like that, so it was more like acting than anything. Also I love the pictures and I got signed to a big modelling agency off the back of it. So that's pretty good.
Love many, trust few, always paddle your own canoe. My gardener gave me that advice. It was about boys, but I think it applies to most things in life.
I'm really pleased that women like me as well as men. My fanbase is quite evenly split. When I was voted the best British body by Grazia, that meant something, because it was voted for by women. You have to win women over, and I think their opinions really matter. When you wear a dress and your female friends say they like it, that's important. Men are a done deal – they're easy.
I've got a temper. What makes me lose it? Boys.
I should really move to LA. Piranha 3D was a big hit this summer and my American agent keeps saying: "Give me three months [of your time]." I show him pictures of my house, my garden, and say: "Why would I want to move?"
My home is very simple. It was built in 1470 and I wanted to keep its integrity. There isn't a TV in every bedroom; it's not glam or footballer's-wifey. I think people would be surprised by it.
Comedy is really hard. I've just shot a pilot for an American sitcom and it's so technical – you have to rehearse for hours.
I think I'm quite good at being sexy in a unthreatening way.
Los Angeles is a work town for me. I just go to meetings, and go to the gym.
I love loading up a trolley in Waitrose. I'm a good cook. Lots of my friends are Italian and I'm always getting new recipes from them. At the moment I'm making batches of chicken escalopes.
My earliest memory is being at London Zoo with my granddad. I asked him why the elephant had two trunks and he told me off and then I stole some Polos out of his pocket.
I'm not scared of anything. I'm pretty fearless.
