The Ilex Altaclerensis 'Golden King' is a variety of Varigated Holly and is a medium sized evergreen tree or shrub.It has glossy green leaves with prominent and striking irregular golden yellow edges, leathery in texture with no spines. A female variety, insignificant small white flowers are produced in Springtime followed by berries which become bright red around mid November. Low maintenance and hardy throughout the UK it is also tolerant of seaside air and urban pollution.
Grown and shaped into a cone it gives a striking effect when next to a doorway or pathway especially at Christmas, and it is equally suited to growing in the open ground or in planters.

Common Name: Golden King Holly Tree.
Origin: The cross occurred at Lawson nursery in Scotland shortly before 1876.
Hardiness: Completely hardy in the UK.
Growth: Evergreen. Slow growing medium size tree or shrub. Cone Shape. Glossy green leaves with striking and prominent irregular golden yellow egdes. No prickles on the leaves. Bright red berries on female plants from mid Nov. Excellent container plant.
Sun: Full sun/shade.
Exposure: Exposed/Sheltered. Tolerates seaside air and urban pollution.
Soil: Any. Well drained. Very adaptable.
Moisture: Water regularly. Tolerates drought.
