lighter than the enzo and the mclaren f1

"this car is .1 second faster than the enzo in 0-60 and about 500 pounds lighter and could probably get a higher top speed. it is at least 100 pounds lighter than the mclaren f1 and ties it in 0-60. so i agree with TVR fans; that when the worlds best super cars are talked about the cerbera speed 12 sould definitly be considered."

I'm not too sure what you chaps are talking about in regard to the aerodynamics of this car. The Cerbera is one of the most slippery shapes I've ever driven. Even the standard 4.5 litre model seems to never stop accelerating, because as speed doubles, drag squares, so the faster you go, the faster air resistance builds up. That's what holds back any car from doing any more than about 240mph. That's a HELL of a lot of air resistance to fight against. The windscreen of this vehicle is quite steep, but it's curved laterally, allowing air to pass around the car, rather than just over it. As for the engine, the 800hp is quite understated, as are most performance quotes of companies like this. I know of standard 4.5 litre models running nearly 500hp when they're only supposed to run 420. That's a big difference believe me! So when one of the speed 12 engines loosens up, provided you treat it nicely, you'd have probably 950-1000hp if you take the quoted figure. However in reality it's probably nearer the 1200 that other guy said. Either way, it won't go much over 250, not much will without STUPIDLY aerodynamic bodywork.

in the U.K thie TVR brand is pinned up all over by children, and dreamed about by men! the manafacturer has a huge reputation over here, but the Speed 12 doesn't! 800BHP estimated? i read in a magazine that the car was tested on a dyno, and the power output reached around 1200BHP before the dyno couldnt cope with the power! thats a standard road car engine. It's no ordinary V-12. it is 2 of TVR's straight 6 engines mated together somehow, in a V-shape. i think they had to restrict the road car to 800BHP, and 2 were only built eventually. the racing Speed 12 has a 'mere' 650BHP engine, thanks to a 27mm Restrictor i think? im not sure on the exact size, but it has one. anyway, Come to England and you will see what i mean about dream car. you have the Viper, and Corvettes, we have Aston Martin and TVR!

Someone really has to do some proper testing in one of these. On paper it looks like it could beat anything with the de-restricted engine, but aero-dynamics would definatley be a problem. I reckon that without the race trim bodywork it would be attempting to take to the air before 200 mph. Also, why is it that this car is almost always ignored in discussions about the world's best supercars? When a new Ferrari or Lambo emerges you can't move for media coverage. When the Speed 12 came out it got a couple of small magazine articles and the only TV appearances were in GT series races at about 3 o'clock in the morning. Is this just media snobbery or an assumption that people will not be interested in the less well known TVR brand?

This car is 110% pure whoop ass. I found it funny that you compared this 800 HP supercar to a $70,000 Viper GTS. I agree with Italianspeed, that the car (in theory) should be able to break 260. However, the windshield aerodynamics seem to have more drag than that of the McLaren F1, but having extra power, and less weight, I would think that would make up for the extra drag. Maybe the car just started getting really light?
it's not a production car... u can't buy one people.

This car is amaizing in concept... but almost non-exsistant in practice. No one's ever tested top speed on it. They only built just under 10 of these and all the ones the few that are left most are owned by TVR or some racing team, the few individually owned Speed 12's there are (if any anymore) are in private collections or museums and almost never see the road, and are not street legal with out certain modifications or licencing (I think they might be legal for track use). In an article in Evo magazine some official type guy at TVR said they have no plans to build anymore and that any customer asking to purchase one has been met with much resistance as possible to discourage the possibly buyer. They have not made one since those select few and have no ententions of building any more despite how much is offered. So quite the big talk about it. It's an amaizing automobile and all... I'd love to have one. But the fact is it's still unproven for many of the claims and we have no way of knowing what other kind of traits it would exhibit......... but I too would love to find out.

Your forgetting aerodynamics & downforce. Key factors in top speed. And the McClaren is not the fastest street legal car. It is the fastest production car. After market packages and 1 off customs have already surpassed it in top speed and acceleration.

"Am I the only who questions the top speed of this fantastic automobile? Consider this: 800 hp, 649 lb/ft of torque, and most importantly, a super low weight of 2358 lbs? It seems to me that this car should surpass even the Bugatti Veyron. Further more, let us bring into perspective the Mclaren. Ah, he had to bring up the Mclaren, didn't he? I suppose so, since it is the ""fastest street legal car in the world"" according to Guiness. Well riddle me this, with 638 hp, 479 lb/ft of torque and weighing in at 2450, that doesn't make sense. The TVR has more power, (an almighty amount when considering the torque curve) and a 100 lb edge. If you ask me, this car would destroy the 260 mph barrier. And hey, give me a Speed 12 and I'll prove it myself!"

this is the best street ligal car i'v ever seen.800 natural hp and 240 mph,its the best.and it can smoke the lambo diablo which is about $100,000 more expencive then carbera speed 12.im not sure how much the new diablo cost but carbera speed 12 cost $245,000.
SPEED 12 is not a viper

In speed relations and power to weight ratios the viper could only dream. The comment about the (bumber) it's an airfoil...not unlike a tail wing. All I have to say is,. After owning a vixen 1 this rocks, wish I had the cash

I love the cerbra speed 12 is has a top speed of 240mph and can do a 0-60 time that can beat a McLarran F1 of 3 second It looks grate and is much better than a Doge viper even if its the GTS one. It also was put I to probation un like the speed 12. Ive actually sat in TVR Cerbera Speed 12 at the sports car show 2002 at the NEC.
 The British Supercar...

13-3-2003
This is the Supercar of Britain today! Italy have the Ferrari F50, Germany have the Porsche 996 turbo, Japan have the Nissan Skyline R34, America have the Dodge Viper. Britain has this Beast, 800 horses under the bonnet, 190mph+ (i think). I think that the Mclaren F1 has had its day, this car is just better. The engine is big and makes the car fly, the looks just blow you away. Forget the BMW, get a TVR... this is guarateed to turn heads in the street.

One can only imagine the top speed that this car could be capable of. In addition, it is a beautiful automobile with clean lines, complex yet outwardly simple shapes. What a beautiful automobile.
you mite prefer the dodge,,doesnt mean it came first

although both the tvr speed 12 and the viper have long sweeping bodies and large rear and side bumpers you cannot say that tvr copied off the dodge,,,as the tvr vixen s1 waz brought out in 58 and shows all the familiar curves of the cerbera and the dodge,,,so maybe you should think about who looks like who,,,and get your facts straight

how dare they do this to my precious Cerbera , why give it the rear end of a camel , but give it the face of britney spears, with the engine that can out run any by stander, but overall i love this beast of a car , it's amazing!!!
 UNTOUCHABLE!!...

1-2-2003
"EVO magazine recently interviewed TVR chairman peter wheeler, they asked him exactly how much power the cerbera speed 12 actually had.........he said he didnt know!, as it turns out TVR have never actually measured the maximum horse power of the speed 12 engine!!! Every time they tried to measure the max power of the speed 12 1000+ bhp engine the input shaft to the dynometer kept breaking! to quote EVO magazine: ""The V12 was wound round to 5000rpm then 5500rpm, then 5700rpm then BANG!! The input shaft to the dino- the dino rated at 1000bhp- snapped, unabled to handle the torque the engine was kicking out,it was quite a big bang at around 660lbs of torque, and it meant that the true figure for the maximum power from the V12 will never be known""..... The only way TVR could get an idea of the power was to take advantage of the fact that the engine was a pair of speed 6's joined together, with two separate ECUs controlling sparks and fuel. This meant they could be set up independantly on the dyno. Peter wheeler pointed out that if you add together the two maximum power readings you get a horse power rating of 940!!!!!!!! and thats jus at 7200rpm those were figuires for the untuned engine( the figuires on ultimatecarpage.com are for the DETUNED ones!!) With 940 bhp and weighning jus over 1000kgs i rekon this car would eat the F1 for breakfast (forgive me mclaren!), and i think it would aslo deceimate any exixsting super car be it the enzo, murceliago, saleen, edonis and yes even the mighty veyron!!"

its incorrect to say that TVR copied the viper, the cerbera speed 12 is based on the cerbera speed 6 ,which in turn had evolved from the chimera, which as u all know came out way before the viper!!!

id just like to point out that the speed 12 is based on the looks and chape of the cerbera and the cerbera was designed before the viper, take your head out of your arse mate and get your facts right

This TVR is really amazing but I just want to remember everyone that there is the TVR Griffith 500 that is the company's most traditional.
Are You Proud of That Bumper?

"The bumper on the Speed 12 looks like a park bench ozzhedian. And yes, it looks like a viper because of the ""long bonnet"" and side draughts. That is what epitomizes the Viper, and TVR has just copied that, with different bumpers front and back."""
 viper...
Ozzhedian
7-12-2002
Is it a viper just because it has a long bonnet and side draughts? And besides, have you even seen the rear of the car? It is completely different with a HUGE (and i mean HUGE) rear bumper.

Not to say that this is not a hot car. Or to say that all of that horsepower doesnt get me horny, but this thing looks too damn much like a viper. Come on TVR, this body looks just about the same. I'm surprised some copyright laws havn't been infringed here. The only difference is the nose and the headlights. But other than that it is a beautiful automobile, and the fact that it is currently the highest horsepower car out there, is awesome.

 The world's best car?
Lachlan J

This may just be the world's best car. The only exception is the original Speed 12, better in every way, only uglier. if this car was proper tuned, with no air restrictors and with more torsional body stiffness, this would decimate all, no question. I just wish TVR would export these beasts here to Australia, but it makes little difference, the narks who control the roads think that a fine car such as this is too powerful to be street legal.

Back in 1998, first time i saw this car in 'Top Gear' magazine...i knew that i already fall in love. No, don't tell me about Ferrari or Lamborghini or maybe McLaren...all those mention car seems too normal for me but this car i mean the Speed 12 not even look different but it just gorgeous and the mad beast inside those engine hood seems unleashed. Who can ever imagine this kind of a solid car..i mean from the design to the bhp it carring. Then i also found out that this car compete in several competition in UK...but sadly to say i'm from Malaysia anyway. More sadly to say that the Speed 12 project was stop due to things that i also don't know...maybe those TVR guys have the right answer for this... Back in year 2000, again TVR come out with the all new Speed 12 with different exterior and interior..look like Cerbera, Speed 12 still maintain those outrageous look with so much power to carry on. After compete in several competition in UK, again they stop the whole project...what a pity for all Speed 12 fans... TVR guys...if you read this, just don't let Speed 12 to be another history...we miss u Speed 12 !!!

Is also featured on this site in the TVR section. I was always a fan of the original 4.5 litre Cerbera and when the Speed 12 came out I thought it would be awesome to do an aftermarket transplant of that engine into a Cerbera chassis. TVR (bless them) thought so too =). Now all I need is the money to buy one and I'll place my order immediately =).... maybe I should just try to save up for a Tuscan first :P

there's another one, speed 12 only, built in 1999 maybe, but it's different, has another spoiler, rear and front. but always 800 horsepower. it was producted because it was projected for win the gt championship, but the new championship's laws cut out it of the competition, and the project was left to itself until this moment.........

No need of aftermarket with this. Pure brutality stock. It's road legal , and race in GT2 category in the UK. The road car is more powerful than the race car , because it has no air intake restrictors.
