Oleaceae

Fraxinus ornus OBELISK ('Paus Johannes Paulus II') Fraxinus ornus OBELISK ('Paus Johannes Paulus II')

A recent selection that has a columnar shape when juvenile. The main branch grows bolt upright. Later the crown spreads a little. Mature trees have a brown-grey bark which is remarkably smooth and the branches turn from olive green to dull-grey. They have many small lenticels. The large leaf consists of (5) 7 - 9 oblong leaflets that are 5 - 10 cm long. When still young this ash does not flower profusely, however, older trees flower abundantly. 'Obelisk' is one of the most beautiful flowering ashes. The panicles appear after the leaf and they are 10 - 12 cm long and wide. The numerous fruit clusters are ornamental and persist well into winter. The tree is used as street and avenue tree and tolerates hard surfaces well. Prefers drier, calcareous soil.
Our trees can only be planted when they don't have any leaves. Due to the this we will start delivering again from November 2024.
