An American cultivar with a compact manner of growth and a vertical, column-shaped crown. Grows to an approx. height of 8 - 10 m, and maximum width of 3 m. The deep green, glossy leaves remain on the tree until late in the autumn, depending on the type of soil Eventually they turn dark purplish red. Abundant white flowers in umbels. The brown fruits, measuring approx. 1 cm, are not very striking. 'Capital' is highly resistant to fire blight. A lovely cultivar that is particularly well-suited to narrow streets and small gardens. Tolerates air pollution well, like all the cultivars of Pyrus calleryana. Winter hardiness zone: 6a
