The pictures of Kate Moss testifying in court, with the supermodel’s supporters declaring that she should have been sworn in as queen of everything, have become a lesson in how to look like a boss.
Days after Kate inspired us to reconsider the polka dot blouse – which looked understated and not at all cartoony under her perfect black blazer (presumably by Saint Laurent) – she joined the likes of Kylie Minogue at the opening night of the ABBA Voyage show. Photographed wearing the kind of effortlessly cool, current-meets-vintage look she does so well, Moss looked eternally chic as per.
The magpie for metallics (spawned presumably from the success of that legendary sheer silver slip dress at an Elite Models party), knows how to temper her sparkle so it never looks try-hard. Her party, or in this case ABBA, look is built around great black bootcut denim (a style she has done much for in terms of promotion) and a favourite shaggy Stella McCartney jacket. Only peeps of the spectacular – an embellished The Vampire’s Wife bag and a shimmering vintage-look top – were visible.
If this isn’t the best endorsement for jeans and a nice top, we don’t know what else is. This week has reminded us that, as her friend Edward Enninful once said, “there will always be Kate Moss” – a truth he called “both thrilling and deeply comforting”. There will always be style lessons to learn from her, and there will always be the quiet stoicism of a woman who once said “never complain, never explain”.
