For many women in Hollywood growing old is a double-edged sword. There is this unwritten rule (oh hey, patriarchy) that their skin needs to stay flawless forever and that they must age gracefully or not at all. As for tweakments? Forget it, that's obviously cheating, and society will take umbrage should they choose to wander down the treatment path.

Courtney Cox is no stranger to this dilemma. Like so many other female celebrities, she has tried to keep up with the forever young brigade only for it to back fire. 'You don't realise you look a little off', the Friends star admitted when talking about her use of fillers over the years, in the podcast Gloss Angeles.

Expressing her regrets over getting the procedure done, the actress, 58, said she 'messed up' her face by getting too many fillers and regrets having work done as a young woman.

Describing the vicious cycle she went through to maintain her looks, she candidly stated, 'thinking I was getting older when I was really young. That's just a bummer, a waste of time; it's a domino effect, it's like you don't realise that you look a little off, so then you keep doing more [be]cause you look normal to yourself and you look in the mirror and go, "Oh, that looks good",' she said.

'You don't realise what it looks like to the outside person and just doing too many fillers and then having to have them removed, which thank god they are removable, but I think I messed up a lot and now luckily I can, I was able to reverse most of that, and now I'm actually just older.'

Cox had all her fillers dissolved in 2017 and went on to add that now, when she looks back at old photos of herself after having fillers, she's in shock. 'I look at pictures of me from when I thought I looked okay, and I can't believe it.'

She also said: 'My publicist wouldn't let me post this, but I wanted to say, like a before or what I was and what I am, and then the caption would be "oh this is what my friend was talking about," because when someone is talking to you [about fillers] and saying, "babe, I don't know," then you're like "what?!" I didn't do anything here and nothing there" and you don't realise that probably floated down.'

This isn't the first time the star has spoken out about her unhealthy relationship with anti-ageing treatments. In 2022, the actress admitted she initially tried to hang on to her youth by opting for 'injections' and other treatments but eventually realised she went 'crazy' and is now trying to age gracefully.

In a recent interview with the Sunday Times Style magazine, she said 'There was a time when you go, "Oh, I’m changing. I'm looking older." And I tried to chase that [youthfulness] for years.

She added, 'and I didn't realise that, oh s***, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now.'
