El Mundo: Griezmann negotiated his Barcelona signing on fee while still playing for Atletico

Actualizado

Last March, Antoine Griezmann negotiated his signing on fee ahead of his summer transfer to Barcelona, at which time Atletico Madrid - his team at the time - were still competing in the Champions League and were in the title race in LaLiga Santander.

The Frenchman's move caused a lot of frustration at Atleti as Barcelona paid his 120 million euro release clause, which dropped from the 200m euro figure prior to July 1, despite the fact that the Blaugrana seemed to have been negotiating with the forward before this date.

Now, the newspaper El Mundo has gained access to the emails that prove that Griezmann, his sister Maud, his father, his lawyer Sevan Karian and a French agent were given a total of 14 million euros as Griezmann's signing on fee.

The distribution generated disagreements between the parties, with Atleti being informed as revenge. However, according to El Mundo, Los Rojiblancos did not include this information in their complaint to the Spanish Football Federation.

All of this was done without Atletico Madrid having any notification from the player or Barcelona.

Atleti, meanwhile, are looking to receive a further 80m euros from Barcelona as there is evidence that the two were negotiating prior to the aforementioned July 1 date.
