Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 review

23 October 2017
Full-view, full screen, bezel-less, tri-bezel-less, FullView, FullVision, Infinity Display - whatever you and your favourite manufacturer decides to call it, the new trend is clear - bezels are so 2016! In the build-up to the flexible display revolution and potentially a long-overdue renaissance of mobile phone design, impressive display aspects and proportions seem to be the most exciting alternative to the boring "slab" form factor.

Kind of strange. I have the Mi Mix 2 for a couple of months now and while I can see it lasts a bit less than the Mi 5 it replaced, the endurance rating seems suspiciously low - I get 2 full days with moderate usage, sometimes more (the Mi 5 always gave me 3). In fact, I tried a Galaxy S8 and it seemed to last less. Maybe the endurance should be retested? Maybe it was some early version of the OS?
Overall it is the first phone that really impressed me after the Nokia N9 (my worst transition ever was going from a N9 to a Galaxy S3 - I thought I went a decade back in technology!).

Ron Allen, 16 Dec 2017Heard that... Product looks great, but no power backing it.... moreMay be gsm arena needs to retest battery life. It comfortably gives an endurance rating of more than 80 hrs and that too on dual sim

Received Mi Mix 2(6GB RAM, 128GB ROM) today from FilpCart.

Below is my mini review -
                          1. Quality of box & its design is very well.
                          2. Handset is so beautiful, futuristic, performance is butter smooth.
                          3. Back cover is made of quality plastic material & its necessary as due to slippery Ceramic back material of handset.
                          4. OS version in MIUI8 build 8.5.1.0(hardening of phone had taken approx >1Hrs, easy to customize & there are various options/settings), now waiting for MIUI9 which will be avaiable on 02-Nov-2017.
                          5. Battery came with 56% default, used it for gaming, watching movies, browsing(both WiFi & 4G), taken some Photos & Videos, etc, over all have used Mi Mix 2 continuously for approx 5 to 6Hrs still there was 12% battery reaming & with 12% battery remaining, charge time was showing approx 1Hrs.
                          6. Excellent 5.99” IPS screen (can say I am not missing my S5 AMOLED screen), Camera, Speakers, Calling qualities, etc are very good.
                          7. OMG audio quality is so clear & loud compared to my Samsung S5.
                          8. Fingerprint sensor is very fast.

Overall very much satisfied with Mi Mix2 & will definitely recommend it.

every phone review , 1st i looking are battery life. so lousy battery life.
i only can go for phone with 4000mah above and pair with S625 , which can give me survive until 11pm even heavy use. ( not gaming )

AnonD-368020, 25 Oct 2017I think I will never understand why some people want remova... moreThe problem with headphone socket is that 99.7% of headphones uses it or other compatible counterpart (1/4" TRS or 6.35mm jack). Wireless headphones are step sideways, they have been in use since 80s so nothing new or revolutionary. On the other hand the reason why they haven't really made their way out of recording studios (until now) is for all the drawbacks they pose.

Batteries need to be recharged constantly
Transmission and audio quality is poor
Added complexity makes them not quite reliable
                                      Prone to interference
Needs to be paired with a transmitter unit (in our case, bluetooth transmitter), so you can't use them with any device that features standard TRS out.

For stage/studio use where cables really pile up quite fast, this solves monitoring problem for large groups of musicians. But for home/portable use, apart from fixing 'cable' problem (and replacing it with numerous drawbacks), there's really no point.
Not to mention you'll be gravely limited to 0.3% of the market.

Oh, and since Beats and AirPods cannot be easily disassembled, once the batteries get depleted, you're expected to throw them away and buy a new set. That would never happen with wired headphones which can last you 25+years.

Anonymous, 25 Oct 2017Do you really think that removing the connector pins increa... moreNo I don't think having non-removable battery increase battery life. But I'm pretty sure you can fit slightly larger battery in there if you omit springed pins.
Having removable battery is definitely a plus, but the whole of the phone has to be built around that, and since the battery is usually replaced only once every 2 years, moderate disassembly isn't something to die for.
However I agree with you that devs should strive to fit as largest battery to the phone as possible, and this trend is, unfortunately, falling in recent times.
Of course the best phone should feature removable battery with capacity upgrade path, but nothing is quite perfect, so best to just make do with what's available today.
