We may all feel as though we could do with a little bit of peace and quiet from time to time,but do you reckon you could handle the seclusion of life on a remote Icelandic island, in a property dubbed the world's loneliest house?
The tiny white building is located on the island of Elliðaey, a remote spot that lies south of Iceland as part of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago.
Being the only house on the island, it's surrounded by nothing but grass - and then sea - and is nestled snugly into the hillside.

While Elliðaey was once inhabited, by the 1930s the remaining few residents left for life on the mainland, and it has been deserted since.
Since then, various rumours have circulated about the mysterious little building - including, according to The Sun, that it was once built by an eccentric billionaire who planned to use it as a retreat in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
Another rumour claimed it belonged to a fanatically religious hermit, and there has even been speculation that singer Björk owned it and was in negotiations with the government to buy the island.

However, the building is actually a lodge constructed by the Elliðaey Hunting Association, as the island is populated by flocks of puffin - which are not illegal to hunt in Iceland, despite being an endangered species.
The island itself has no electricity, running water or indoor plumbing, but the sole property does boast a sauna fed off a rainwater collection system.
Then, of course, there's the natural beauty of the rugged area, with amazing views out to sea.
The story of the house and the island recently went viral on social media, including forum site Reddit.

A photo of the unusual spot was posted with the caption: " The loneliest house in the world (Elliðaey island, Iceland)."
While some said it looked like their 'dream house location' and offered 'no problems in social distancing', others weren't quite as sold on the idea.
"S*** yourself if you heard someone walking outside at 4am," one commented.

Another said: "All I can think is, it probably doesn't have running water and if there's electricity it's gonna be via a generator. No internet and likely no cell reception."
A third pointed out how annoying it would be if you needed groceries, while another person explained: "It's a hunting lodge between the main island of Iceland and an archipelago of Vestmanadjyar.
"It's actually not that crazy remote (though you can't dock there unless you are a member of the hunting club), with a ferry passing several times a day. It's really pretty though, and really does look that crazy in real life. Vestmanadjyar has terrain like this you can hike and see puffins."
If you're keen to see the island up close, tour companies offer day trips to Elliðaey for tourists.
