David Haye to pocket £1.4m MORE than Tony Bellew despite losing to rival in heavyweight clash

Crocked heavyweight boxer earned £4.2m in his defeat whilst Bellew took home £2.8m

DEFEAT will taste sweeter for David Haye knowing he will pocket £1.4million MORE than Tony Bellew after their heavyweight bout.

The 36-year-old was left devastated after his corner were forced to throw in the towel in the 11th round after suffering a serious Achilles injury.

But Haye, whose career has been left in tatters, will earn a total of £4.2m from the fight whilst Bellew picked up his biggest payday of his career collecting £2.8m.

Foreign TV rights, ticket sales of around £2.5m and pay-per-view sales thought to be around 600,000 viewers added to the £7m purse share.

The figure is way off Haye's biggest payday when he earned over £10m following his defeat by Russian giant Wladmir Klitschko.

However it may be his last following his latest injury.

The Hayemaker was left in agony for five rounds after suffering his Achilles injury and had to go under the knife to repair the damage.

Bellew's promoter Eddie Hearn called on Haye to hang up his gloves by saying: "He should retire. Haye took this fight for the wrong  reasons in the first place."
