Aaliyah estate 'working diligently' to bring her music to streaming

Fans of late singer Aaliyah have received an update from her estate about when they could expect her catalog to hit streaming services.

On what would've been Aaliyah's 42nd birthday, a message on her official Twitter account explained that the deal will take time but they are "working diligently to protect what's in [its] control."

"To our loyal fans: We hear you and we see you," the note reads. "While we share your sentiments and desire to have Aaliyah's music released, we must acknowledge that these matters are not within our control, and, unfortunately, take time. Our inability to share Aaliyah's music and artistry with the world has been as difficult for us as it has been for all of you."

The estate also shared its plans to release "unique and exciting projects" to help keep her memory alive.

Aaliyah, born Aaliyah Dana Haughton, made an impact in the '90s with her unique blend of R&B, pop, and hip-hop as well as her albums Age Ain't Nothing But a Number and One in a Million. Her 2001 self-titled album was released nearly two months before her untimely death on Aug. 25 when her plane crashed as she and her team returned from the Bahamas where she was shooting the music video for her song "Rock the Boat." She was 22.

Throughout her career, she also had a promising future as an actress with lead roles in Romero Must Die and Queen of the Damned. At the time of her death, she had begun shooting The Matrix Reloaded as the character Zee and was set to film The Matrix Revolutions. The role was taken over by actress Nona Gaye.
