Macleay's Honeyeater (Xanthotis macleayanus) 28 July 2014. Mossman Gorge, QLD, Australia

This distinctive bird formerly had the scientific name X. macleayana, but most authorities including Clements 6th edition, have corrected the suffix for gender agreement with the genus. This species is endemic to the wet tropics of northern Queensland, but we found it to be fairly common there, often foraging high in the canopy.
