Spotted while walking the bank of the river. Partially submerged on downed tree root.
Mike, this is a County record. And since so small, seems to show breeding population. I just verified the same in Huntingdon County today. I suspect maybe part of same river system.
Cute little guy. I changed this from a Midland Softshell to a Spiny Softshell. The Spiny Softshell is named from the little ridged on the front of the carapace. There were only a few accounts from the early 1900s of Midlands in the state, and that species is likely extirpated. Happy Herping.
