Full of drama--sometimes melodrama--it unsurprisingly puts Braxton's rich voice and command of nuance front and center of one state-of-the-art track after another. Unfortunately, The Heat plays up her taste for ballads to such a point that the disc bores itself into a quiet-storm rut. The big exception is the Rodney Jerkins-produced first single, "He Wasn't Man Enough." The song's smoldering rebuff and Jerkins's measured funk make a perfect match for Braxton's matter-of-fact hauteur. The first single "He Wasn't Man Enough" makes me want to dance. I could listen to it over and over. It has a contagious beat to it. The title cut The Heat is also a future dance track hit. Diane Warren has written another great song. "Spanish Guitar" is a sexy romantic ballad that reminds me of "Unbreak my Heart." The song "Speaking in Tougues" is about the power of non verbal communication between lovers. It is a smooth jam that I find very enjoyable. The song "Just Be a Man About it" is a lesson for the guys about how to break up with someone. This song has honest direct lyrics any person can relate to. This is a good CD that I highly recommend to R and B fans.

Another strong track: "Maybe" recieved some decent Airplay. Although this project is more Contemporary than her previous projects (Maybe she's just tryin' to keep up with the times). It would be nice for her go back to basics (Maybe even a project with The London Symphony). This project just proved that she can even keep up the younger generation.
