The Blue-fronted Lancebill is 9.6 to 11 cm (3.8 to 4.3 in) long and weigh 3 to 5 g (0.11 to 0.18 oz).

The Blue-fronted Lancebill is a medium-sized, greenish hummingbird with a long, slender, straight bill. It lives in wet forests, mountain foothills, and adjacent lowlands. Within its range, it feeds on nectar and small arthropods. The Blue-fronted Lancebill is divided into two subspecies. Its smaller, darker, violet forehead, shorter bill, and smaller overall size make it distinguishable from the similar Green-fronted Lancebill. In addition, there is a much lower elevation where the Blue-fronted Lancebill lives.

    Distribution E slope of E Andes from CE Colombia S to C (Junín) and SE Peru (Cusco and Madre de Dios).

  2. D. j. guianensis
    Distribution tepuis of S Venezuela, W Guyana and adjacent N Brazil (Amazonas, Roraima).
