Make the Pine Barrens Treefrog the New Jersey State Amphibian
Make the Pine Barrens Treefrog the New Jersey State Amphibian
Why this petition matters
This petition is in support of Assembly Bill A1895, which designates the Pine Barrens Treefrog (Hyla andersonii) as the New Jersey state amphibian. Hyla andersonii would be a perfect state amphibian because it is named after the New Jersey Pine Barrens, a unique 1.1 million acre ecosystem in southern New Jersey, which is one of only three places where the species resides. In addition, its vibrant green coloration and striking purple stripes down both sides of its body makes this species one of the most beautiful and unique frogs in both New Jersey and the nation, and would perfectly capture the essence of the incredible amphibian diversity of New Jersey. The bill has already passed the state Senate, and only needs to go through the State Assembly to be approved!
