Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, accompanied by Mexico's ambassador to Qatar, Graciela Gómez García, led a meeting at the Katara Cultural Village cultural center with the Mexican community there, at which he presented the "Distinguished Mexican" award to Mexican citizen Bora Milutinovic.

The award was given to Bora Milutinovic, a naturalized Mexican living in Qatar, for his outstanding and long career as a soccer player and coach. Milutinovic is an admired source of inspiration for many athletes in Mexico and around the world.

He played more than 270 games for Mexican teams, coached the PUMAS of the UNAM, and coached Mexico's national team in the 1986 World Cup, where Mexico reached its best position ever.

Qatari sports personalities and media representatives attended the event, at which a video was broadcast in which 12 members of the 1986 national team expressed their gratitude, affection and respect for Bora.

The "Distinguished Mexican" award is a silver medal and a diploma given by the Foreign Ministry's Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME) through Mexico's embassies and consulates around the world to Mexicans who have lived for at least the last five consecutive years abroad and have demonstrated an outstanding track record in the sciences, academia, technology, business, creative endeavors, innovation or activities of social responsibility, among others.
