Gianluca R Gabriele Salvatores' "Nirvana" is a hidden gem within the dystopian film genre, dazzling with its avant-garde vision and deep exploration of virtual reality and artificial consciousness. The film delves into a richly constructed cybernetic world, where the protagonist, masterfully portrayed by Christopher Lambert, struggles to free his creation—a program that has developed its own consciousness. Salvatores' direction is provocative and stylistically bold, utilizing a palette of cold colors and an oppressive atmosphere that perfectly captures the alienation and technological desolation. The narrative of "Nirvana" is complex and filled with symbolic layers that challenge the nature of reality and individual freedom within the confines of a digitally orchestrated world. This film is not only a visual spectacle but also an intellectual challenge, offering a profound meditation on technology and its impact on humanity. Although it may be lesser-known, "Nirvana" is undoubtedly a masterpiece deserving of greater recognition for its daring approach and insightful philosophical perspective. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/21 Full Review Audience Member An interesting concept for a film that doesn't always live up to it's promises but manages to be entertaining & interesting to watch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie, and it spends a special place in my heart as being one of the greatest of all time for me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Audience Member An awkward mishmash of virtual realities an noir thriller that had a lot of promise and actually does a decent job of mashing real-life communicating with sentient computer life. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Being a fan of Blade Runner, I obviously have enjoyed it. I love the cyberpunk atmosphere and the decadent postmodern cities "inspired" by Ridley Scott's movie, but somehow also anticipating the Matrix. Maybe for the American Sci-fi fans it's not the best, but considering it's a low-budget Italian Sci-fi, than I must say I really liked it.
