As one of the first personalities to propel the American brand Tommy Hilfiger to the forefront of the fashion (and streetwear) scene, Aaliyah made this neon look one of her signature outfits. This silhouette, which was worn for one of her concerts in Inglewood in California, brought together all the aesthetic rules of 1990s hip-hop culture.

During a performance on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in 1997, she wore a workwear style with asymmetrical cuts. But it was really the white model she wore in her music video for "More Than A Woman" released in 2001 that made her mark on the fashion scene.

With 18 songs under belt, Aaliyah died in a plane crash on August 21, 2001, following the shooting of her Rock the Boat music video. Beyond her influence on the music scene in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Aaliyah also took a few steps into the film world, starring in the films Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned. The latter's filming ended in mourning the death of the singer, who lent her talent to play the character Akasha.
