SuperAV
Designed by engineers in Bolzano to meet an identified need for an air-transportable medium AFV capable of operating up to Sea State 3, SUPERAV is available in a number of variants, all based on a common hull design and drive train. Developed by the company as a private venture, the SuperAV meets user requirements with an increased level of protection, especially against mines and improvised explosive devices (IED). According to IVECO, SuperAV has the highest protection level in its class.
In 2009, Iveco Defence Vehicles unveiled the SUPERAV 8x8 as the newest Marine Personnel Carrier (MPC) candidate for the US Marine Corps. IVECO Defence Vehicles presented this new Amphibious Armored Vehicle at Eurosatory 2010, the International Land Forces Exhibition. Development of the SuperAV is complete and qualification was to be completed by the end of 2010. The Landing Force Italiana is a potential customer. In September 2011 Iveco, a Fiat Industrial company, together with BAE Systems announced they would participate in a tender for the supply of Marine Personnel Carrier (MPC) vehicles. The new vehicle is an amphibious armored troop transporter of around 27 tons gross mass that can carry up to 12 soldiers that is being developed based on the Superav 8x8, presented to the Italian Armed Forces in 2010 for the national landing forces.
SuperAV is currently being marketed in two body widths, 2.7m and 3m, with the latter providing greater amphibious payload. The baseline vehicle is fully amphibious, being driven in the water by two propellers. The amphibious model has a combat weight of 24 tonnes, but if required this can be increased to 28 tonnes by removing the amphibious capability. Various weapon systems can be mounted on the roof up to a turret-mounted 30mm cannon.
SUPERAV engine and driveline were selected to provide the benefits of a COTS high rate production system which is both highly reliable and particularly well suited to this application, being derived from the battle proven Centauro vehicle family. The Superav is motorized with an Iveco Cursor 13 6L turbocharged multifuel diesel engine developing 500 - 560 hp coupled to a ZF 7HP902 gearbox with seven forward and one reverse.
The widebody version of the SUPERAV 8x8 APC offers further increased amphibious payload, so granting the highest survivability level for vehicles of its class. As mobile as the lightest and as protected as the heaviest comparable solutions, SUPERAV 8x8 offers the combination of performance, payload and protection.
