Antelope jackrabbit flashes its white sides while running away. Its common name comes from Pronghorn Antelope, which also have white rumps which they flash when running away from a predator. This jackrabbit's long legs enable it to make a rapid getaway. The long ears of the jack rabbit have evolved to radiate heat from large veins in the ears which carry cooled blood back to the body. The long ears also serve to detect very faint sounds at distance - in order to avoid predators.
